Acne Rosacea And How To Self Treat

Acne rosacea is a skin condition that affects the skin in the center of the face. It is most prevalent on the cheeks, nose, and chin. The outward appearance resembles a red flushing and acne like blemishes.

Left untreated acne rosacea can also affect parts of the eye which can become inflamed.

Before attempting to self treat it is important you seek the advice of a medical doctor or dermatologist to verify if you actually have acne rosacea.

Your doctor may prescribe a topical or oral antibiotic. Or you may want to try some changes to your diet first to see if you can improve your acne rosacea yourself.

For starters consider reducing the amount of alcohol you drink.

Spicy foods and hot drinks can also contribute to the redness you experience.

One study showed an improvement after a 24 hour fast which was followed up by a vegan diet. A vegan diet includes no animal flesh foods, dairy products, or eggs.

Remember to never self treat without first consulting your doctor. This includes any attempts to fast and change your diet.

The simplest way to help reduce the signs of redness is to limit your exposure to the sun, watch your stress level, avoid excessive exercise and steer clear of extreme temperatures when bathing or outdoors.

Your doctor may also suggest the use of vitamins.

For instance, azelaic acid which is found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley is used topically in a 20% strength cream. In controlled clinical trials this cream has been shown to be effective for mild to moderate acne rosacea. This prescription only cream should only be used under your doctor's supervision.
